“If the earth were your body, you would be able
to feel the many places where it is suffering.
Every day, children and adults die because of the pollution of air
and water. These
things are related.”
- Thich Nhat Hanh, Buddhist Monk
It’s
a sad truth: communities of color and poor communities
suffer disproportionately from environmental harm. Whether it’s
dirty air, unclean industries, toxic dump sites,
lead poisoning, shortage of open space, incinerators,
or excessive truck traffic, communities of color
and poor communities generally suffer from a host of environmental
health threats.
GreenFaith mobilizes religious institutions and individuals
to advocate for environmental justice based on a
set of religiously-based principles and offers programs, like GreenFaith's
environmental health and justice tours, also known as "Toxic Tours," that raise
awareness as well as provide resources.
