Phoenix Fellowship Praises God by Protecting the Planet

Eden Keeper

Creative Living Fellowship in Phoenix, Arizona, is the first Religious Science congregation to join and graduate the GreenFaith Certification Program.

The Creative Living Fellowship in Phoenix, Arizona, is a unique religious organization that is committed to social service and environmental stewardship.

CLF follows the principles of religious science or “new thought.” They use The Science of the Mind written by Dr. Ernest Holmes as their foundational text as well as the Bible and other sacred writings. Religious science, which is not Scientology or Christian science, is about achieving fullness, peace, and harmony — an openness to evolutionary improvement of consciousness in all areas of life. It hopes to combine religion, science, and philosophy to move the world forward with greater peace, harmony, health, and prosperity.

Following the tenants of their faith, CLF members are committed to social service, including animal care, helping those in need, and practicing green faith. The staff mobilizes people to get involved with projects, educate, and encourage others to become environmental stewards. They have a number of plans, including classes for adults and young people, buying locally grown food, and sponsoring projects both nationally and internationally. The staff is passionate about what they do, and are encouraging others to become leaders in the green causes.

Because of their work, CLF is the first New Thought institution to be accepted into the GreenFaith Certification Program. This is a program in which religious institutions of all faiths and denominations commit to being leaders in environmental stewardship. During a two-year period (which began for CLF in May 2012), GreenFaith institutions agree to engage in a variety of initiatives to be more environmentally conscious, to deepen their congregation’s awareness of its environmental responsibility, and provide youth and adult education on how to live in greater harmony with Mother Earth.

“We are a powerful voice for an emergence of a strong, vibrant and healthy Mother Earth and the protection and love of all sentient beings,” says the CLF 15-year vision. “We demonstrate God’s love for the planet and all life by being a role model of a community committed to sustainability as well as by educating others in sustainable living practices.”

They are celebrating their graduation from the GreenFaith Certification Program with a Green Expo. This event takes place on Saturday, May 24th at CLF. It will feature over 30 vendors with eco-friendly businesses, along with games, face painting, a raffle, and more. It will go from 9am-5pm and promises to be a fun day full of positivity, celebrating the earth, and being good stewards to the planet.

“We just graduated from the program and are celebrating,” Giva Solana Schumacher, CLF’s Green Faith Ministry Leader, told us. “We should celebrate big, and therefore we have this green expo coming up. This is our first year, but I’m thinking it could be done annually, we are having so much fun with it.”

If you are in Phoenix check out the Green Expo and celebrate with CLF!
