Sustainable Synagogues Initiative - GreenFaith and the Conservative Movement

 

GreenFaith, the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs, Women's League for Conservative Judaism, The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, and the Rabbinical Assembly have partnered to launch the Sustainable Synagogues Initiative - the most comprehensive effort to 'green' a North American religious denomination.  The Initiative was announced in October 2010, and will run for three years.Stone Shofar and Windmill

Free Resources Annually for Conservative Synagogues

Through the Initiative, partners will release free resources annually enabling synagogues of all sizes to integrate environmental themes into their worship, religious education, facility operations, their members' consumption habits, and their advocacy.

Webinars Offered

On 9-21-11 a webinar was offered to describe the Energy Conservation resource, and the steps a synagogue can take to become an Energy Conservation Leader. Listen to the webinar recording or access the PowerPoint that was used during the presentation.

 

Subsidies for the GreenFaith Certification Program

GreenFaith will offer four 50% tuition subsidies and 5 additional 15% subsidies to Conservative synagogues during each of the three years of the Sustainable Synagogues Initiative.  The next application deadline for the tuition subsidies is December 1, 2011.  Read the press release about this opportunity.

Subsidies for the GreenFaith Fellowship Program

There are tuition subsidies for Conservative leaders to enter the GreenFaith Fellowship Progam.  The Fellowship Program is a unique interfaith environmental education and training program for lay and ordained leaders.  There are over 80 Fellows around the US from Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Buddhist communities.

The next application deadline for the Fellowship Program will be June 15, 2012.  Stay tuned for more information.
