Environmental Justice Programs
Home page for environmental justice section
Dirty air. Unclean industries. Toxic dump sites. Lead poisoning. Incinerators. Lack of access to the decision-making process. Consistently, communities of color and poor communities suffer from more than their share of environmental health threats.
GreenFaith is committed to fighting environmental injustice.
Advocacy
We've established several principles that guide our advocacy.

African American communities in the US suffer disproportionately from the impacts of climate change. Read this open letter from African American clergy about this. African American clergy are invited to sign.
Green Jobs
We educate and advocate in support of 'green jobs' - jobs that help the environment and lift people out of poverty. Review our green jobs resource center.
Education
Many people are not yet aware of environmental justice, and we feel communities of faith should be informed before they take action. To that end, we develop educational opportunities on the topic.
- We offer Environmental Justice (EJ) Tours in our home state of New Jersey to educate religious leaders about the environmental burdens facing these at-risk communities.
Campaigns and Partnerships
We participate in campaigns to promote environmental justice.
- Currently, we're part of the Coalition for Healthy Ports to seek clean air and good jobs at our nation's ports.
Hands-On Opportunities
GreenFaith is always looking for new ways to offer hands-on environmental solutions to communities that need them most.
- Through our Healthy People, Healthy Planet Tour, we distributed free Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs in urban congregations and agencies in New Jersey, helping these communities cut their energy costs and educating them about environmental health issues. Over 40,000 light bulbs were distributed over 2 years.
- Through a partnership with PSE&G - a leading New Jersey utility - we enrolled over 500 residents of eight New Jersey cities in the Whole House Energy Efficiency Program - a free home energy audit program.
