GreenFaith's SPLENDOR Program

SPLENDOR – which stands for Spiritual Life, Ethics and Nature, Deepening Our Reverence – is GreenFaith’s education program to introduce people of different religious backgrounds to the relationship between religion and the earth.

GreenFaith offers versions of SPLENDOR for adults, teenagers and children.

"I experienced Splendor as eco-faith community building.  To share thoughts of creation with twenty people, in a house of prayer, served as a sign to me that 'in God's house there are many mansions with solar panels.  And we know the way to that place.' "
–Pastor Seth Kaper-Dale, Reformed Church of Highland Park, SPLENDOR participant

SPLENDOR for Adults

SPLENDOR for Adults is an introduction to the relationship between religion and the earth. It consists of three sessions, one focusing on personal experience in the natural world, one focusing on the link between consumption and religion, and a third focusing on environmental justice. Participants will

  • take an ecological footprint quiz to analyze the environmental impact of their own consumption, and commit to changes in their consumption habits.
  • learn about the impact of environmental degradation on at-risk communities
  • write about and discuss a spiritual experience they’ve had in nature.

Presently, GreenFaith staff offer SPLENDOR at houses of worship around New Jersey. Click here if you would like to schedule SPLENDOR at your house of worship.

SPLENDOR for Teenagers

SPLENDOR for Teenagers is an introduction to the relationship between religion and the earth, designed specifically for youth groups, confirmation classes, and bar/bat mitzvah classes. It consists of three sessions, one focusing on personal experience in the natural world, one focusing on the link between consumption and religion, and a third focusing on environmental justice. Participants will

  • take an ecological footprint quiz to analyze the environmental impact of their own consumption
  • learn about the impact of environmental degradation on at-risk communities
  • spend time outside in silent meditation observing their relationship with God through the natural world.

Presently, GreenFaith staff offer SPLENDOR for Teenagers at houses of worship around New Jersey. Click here if you would like to schedule SPLENDOR for Teenagers at your house of worship.

SPLENDOR for Children

GreenFaith is in the process of designing a series of lessons to introduce children to the relationship between religion, God and the earth.
