Building in Good Faith
Building in Good Faith is an introductory “field
guide” to environmentally responsible religious architecture,
specifically addressing the many issues in the building process
at the intersection of the environment, justice, and religious
values. In addition to offering basic guidance on building
technology and design and how to get the job done, BGF addresses
the questions behind green building practices:
- What are the environmental impacts of building technologies?
- What religious and theological significance do they have?
- What roles can houses of worship and other religious
organizations have in sparking positive change in their
communities?
BGF is being written specifically for an architecturally
and religiously “lay” audience, with the intent
of being useful for building committee members, clergy, and
congregants as design choices are being made. It will thus
help to:
- Ease discussions with architects, engineers, and other
building professionals
- Clarify their project goals and make architectural and
operational decisions
- Ground design choices in a religious
community’s
shared values, both to help clergy and committee members
understand the importance of green design, as well as provide
an educational tool for the congregation
Building in Good Faith is currently under development.
