GreenFaith’s Professional Grade Energy Audit
This energy audit is a state-of-the-art energy audit performed
by Andrew Rudin, one of the world’s most experienced
energy auditors of religious facilities. GreenFaith then
organizes three related consultations.
Here's how it works:
- GreenFaith organizes an initial consultation to orient
your leadership team about energy conservation.
- GreenFaith helps you analyze your current energy usage
patterns to develop a baseline for measurement purposes
and to compare your energy usage to other facilities. GreenFaith
will also provide resources to help you quantify the environmental
impact of your energy use.
- GreenFaith conducts a site visit to evaluate your facility
and to identify conservation opportunities. GreenFaith
staff will review the following: lighting, temperature
controls, furnace/boiler/HVAC performance, appliances,
insulation and weather-stripping, and energy management
practices. GreenFaith will also check your billing to ensure
that your facility is being billed at the proper tariff
level, and provide contact information for potential rebates
on energy efficiency retrofits.
- GreenFaith will install temperature monitors to measure
the temperature at key locations in your facility.
- GreenFaith produces a detailed written report with recommendations
for energy conservation, including estimated energy and
financial savings and environmental benefits. This report
will include detailed recommendations on equipment suggested
for retrofits, and will include the cost of equipment.
- GreenFaith will consult with your leadership team to
review the report recommendations.
- After 3-5 months, GreenFaith will consult again with
your leadership team to review progress on implementing
the conservation measures.
- GreenFaith’s Energy Auditor
will be available by phone on an ongoing basis for consultation.
Cost: $80/hour; travel from Philadelphia billed at $40/hr.
Audits range in price from $900 - $2,000, depending on the
size and complexity of the facility.
Additional Requirements
- Past two years of energy bills for your institution
- Signed, good-faith commitment from ordained leader and
leader of governing body to make best effort to implement
the Audit recommendations
- Commitment to print newsletter article educating your
members about the audit
- Commitment to distribute GreenFaith Home Energy Tips
and Adopt-a-Windmill brochure (materials provided by GreenFaith)
to individual members through newsletter, worship insert,
or other means
- Leadership Team of at least 4 individuals who commit
to the 3 consultations
- The following samples will give you a sense of the thoroughness and usefulness of the professional grade energy audit, and how one would reflect the specifics of your facility and organization:
Temple
Beth El, Closter, NJ - a synagogue constructed in
mid-century with a later addition
Shiloh
Baptist Church - an urban congregation, heavily used,
with a building suffering from deferred maintenance
St.
Joseph's Seminary - a large, old facility
