Solar installation at Christ Episcopal Church in TeaneckSolar Energy

How does solar electric technology work? Silicon solar panels receive photons of sunlight, which release electrons that are collected by a network of silver wires embedded in each solar panel. In this way, each solar panel generates DC electricity.

A trunk line from each panel leads into a main trunk line that collects the DC power from all the panels. This trunk line leads to an inverter box, which transforms the DC power into AC power and feeds it into your institution’s electric box for regular use.

Thanks to New Jersey ’s “net metered” system, you do not need any batteries to store the solar power you generate. If your building needs more electricity than your panels generate, the utility supplies what’s needed. When your institution’s panels generate more than your building needs, your electricity meter spins backwards!
